Inflect Dumbbells
When I started the design of the INFLECT Dumbbells for Cortell Fitness, I immediately decided that it wouldn't just be a piece of sports equipment. I wanted to create an object that would be close to the sphere of architecture and art. As simple as possible but at the same time dynamic.
The inspiration was Sky Mirror by Anish Kapoor. I was interested in the effect of the refraction of space in an art object, the interaction of light and shadow in the concave surface of the sculpture.
These same principles are included in the design of the dumbbell. The composition is based on clean lines and geometric shapes. The design is functional, but also with a focus on the feelings that the object creates when you look at it.
